Rare blue diamond fetches $6.4m
A London-based merchant, Alisa Moussaieff, won the bidding and said she was very happy with the price.
Alisa said, "Well it's an individual thing and people have got to like it and people have got to see the value in it, but we do see the value and I hope our clients will see the value as well."
The 5.16 carat pear-shaped diamond, originally from the De Beers Millennium Collection, sold above the top estimate of $5.8 million and is one of 12 in a collection the diamond company says took decades to put together.
