Foreign troops not peace solution in Afghanistan: Iran

Foreign troops not peace solution in Afghanistan: Iran KABUL: Iran does not consider the presence of foreign troops a solution for peace in Afghanistan, visiting Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in Kabul on Wednesday.

"We do not see the presence of foreign military forces in Afghanistan as a solution for peace in Afghanistan," Ahmadinejad told a joint news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

"Our policy is full support for the Afghan people and Afghan government and reconstruction of Afghanistan and we will continue this support in the future," said the visiting Iranian head of state.

His visit overlaps with US Defense Secretary Robert Gates, in Afghanistan to review a surge of US and NATO troops set to bring their number to 150,000 by August in a last-ditch effort to end eight years of war in Afghanistan.
